Everglades National Park

First thing we learned in the Everglades:  Alligators do not like to be cold.
Next thing we learned:  75 degrees is cold to an American Alligator (and most local Floridians).

Our day was a bit of an "I Spy" game searching the water and sawgrass for alligators.  Andy became so good at spotting them that a group of tourists nicknamed him "Alligator Dundee" and followed us on the trails.  At one point Andy said, "Wouldn't it be cool if we looked down and there was a gator right under the walkway?"

No joke, this guy was hiding in the bushes right where Andy pointed.  Camouflage at it's finest.

Winter might be too cold for the alligators, but it is prime bird watching season in the Glades.

As a family we have determined we are more "bird fans" than "gator fans."

A bird feeding (not eating) her young.

Andy's favorite bird, our nickname: that rainbow bird (should have bought a bird guidebook).

Turned out the largest alligator we saw all day was right under the boardwalk to the visitor center, well disguised as a rock from most angles.
