Escape from Orlando

After over a month in Orlando, it was time for us to literally move on down the road.  I was so nervous about towing my car I had postponed, and postponed our departure, but there was so much more to Florida that I wanted to see.  Finally we packed up, hooked up and headed south.   Ahhh, success!  After setting up a homebase in Homestead we were off to explore Miami.

As per my guidebook's suggestion we had planned on splurging on some seasonal stone crab for lunch at Joe's Stone Crab House.  We were expecting a "beachy" feel, but with  the ritzy neighborhood and the well dressed businessmen we quickly decided this was not our style.

Plan B:  some take-out and a walk on Miami Beach.

A rather deserted Miami Beach

After walking and driving around Miami Beach to check out the colorful hip hotels, restaurants, etc we drove south to the lighthouse on Key Biscayne.

Our first warm day at the beach since Christmastime.
