Gettysburg, PA- December 2nd

While David took the kids to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown I enjoyed a cold medicine induced nap.  I woke up long enough for David to show me evidence of a huge snow storm approaching.  He convinced me that Niagara Falls was out and it was time to head south.  [He would like to reference pictures on the Internet of Buffalo digging out of six foot snow drifts]
I woke up hours later out of my medicine fog into true fog.  I couldn't believe David was still driving, but he was anxiously looking for a place to pull over for the night.  We joined a long line of truckers and campers at a crowded truck stop and settled in for a cold, snowy night in a McDonald's driveway.
We woke up to a beautiful day and continued on to Gettysburg to begin the blood and destruction portion of our trip.  [After a few battlefield sites Kristen wants to know when we will stop going to sad places]

The Gettysburg Visitor Center has an antique "Cyclorama" depicting the battle. Apparently these were quite the entertainment craze in the late 1800s.  You stand in a circular room surrounded by a huge oil painting with real life props in the foreground.  The "show" uses lights, sound, and special effects to make the painting come to life.  It was actually hard to tell where the "real life" ended and the painting began.

Oh Andy, the trip hasn't been that bad...

Things are finally starting to come together- we went to the Lincoln museum and now the place where he gave the Gettysburg address.

Really Andy, can't you check out the other end of the cannon instead..
