Day One

A little background information:  This is the story of our cross country roadtrip in a 30 foot motorhome.  Our family includes, Karyn and David, and our three children; Andy, 12; Kristen, 7;  and Karlyne,18 (a freshman in college who will visit later).  We have five months and only three scheduled events-  pick Karlyne up in Philadelphia on November 20th, Thanksgiving, and a week in D.C. starting December 6th.

It is official, the Crawford's have FINALLY left the state.  Nothing to be too excited about, we are only three days late.  Three days late on a five month trip is about par for the course for me.  Andy has graciously offered to skip all of the "Little House on the Prairie" stuff to make up time.  It has been such an uneventful day that I must use Kristen's journal entry:

I am in Idaho.  I'm camping at Walmart (forgot to mention this is a budget trip that includes TONS of free camping).  This is how I got there. I got up in the morning and said good-bye to my sister. We drove.  We stopped at Costco for lunch, then Idaho.  Done.

Just checked my email and got a message from David telling me he "forgot to tell me the coach battery in the motorhome is toast,"  I guess that would be why the lights are dimming already.  Good thing we are camping at Wal-mart.  Hmm... now why does Wal-mart offer overnight parking?  (David is a ship captain for Horizon Lines and will be joining us in a few weeks- someone has to work to bankroll this trip)

Our first glimpse of snow- crossing the Cascades.

  1. Karyn - you may hate to write, but today's note is interesting & funny. I love the way blogs show a bit of a person's personality! I will follow this adventure of the Crawford's for sure, so I really do hope that you post often. If you ever have time(?) check out my blog, too. You are one of the people who urged me to have one & for that I thank you - I'm enjoying it more than I ever thought I would...
